Consider for a moment, Starlight is only 3 cycles old, but looks like shes developed into physical maturity (potentially capable of reproducing). There could be a difference in time between their cycle and our year. Then theres a matter of the variety of species, with differing combinations of growth and reproduction rates (both in frequency and number of children), which may not compare with ours.

Now factor in the soul catcher, which means even after ones organic body gives out, one can live on afterwards.

Assuming the planet hasnt had an apocolypse scale event or large scale war in recent history, the population count on such a world would be massive.

It is quite feasible that the population growth is currently out growing the court system, leading to longer and longer waits for cases to be heard.

I would hope the big kahuna who invented the comlinks had SOME sort of safeguard. Hopefully...lol But it's sure quite a hurdle regardless.

With the Soul Catcher, supply and demand gets more streamlined to ease the process. A significant portion of the workforce getting brain-uploaded to their comlinks has skills which don't need to be extensively re-trained every generation. This means there is less overall incentive for 'reproduction', which hasn't even been implemented in the cyber frames yet.

And since most of these robots run on the same resources - electricity, internet, and replacement parts - they no longer have to maintain a diverse / fragile resource generating market of crops, land, air, etc. This also applies a greater efficiency on the Kardashev scale, since more research can be dedicated to energy production instead of farming.

The real issue is that this technology, while beneficial, is not fully documented or safeguarded. We saw that Star's body is a serious anomaly in the soul-catching process, with explosive results. What other conditions can cause the system to fail spectacularly? What happens if a virus or system error manages to disable a large number of com-links at the same time?
