There is LOTS of cat-like inspiration for the Vadar (which is the alien species Star is an anthro of)! So maybe!

Male cat stud jowls are a maybe similar "flappy thing" hanging off the face that both may be known and unknown to a large proportion here, they tend to stop developing when a male is neutered, seem to have relatively little feeling and are surmised to primarily serve as face protection during mating fights.

Big stud jowls picture on the scale of the early Garfield comics:

Poor Star, she needs a crash course in information safety - and as smart as she is, I can see that back-fire on Misty in the most (for her) infuriating siblings will be siblings kind of way. xD

Looking forward to uncover more about this Dunedin fellow. Let's hope he has changed enough to be just shrewd and not malicious.

That thing of Star's that Misty yanks, now you got me curious about what function they might’ve served...
They're not sensitive enough to be sensory - but they're quite distinct, the position is impractical for protective purpose.
- They have that white part that looks almost frill like - I end up with two possible purposes of origin.
1) show off, either as mating or threat display
2) heat regulation. It's now my headcanon that whatever specie Star originate from, they're adapted to life on the move in a tropical / subtropic climate.

lol nope. She only has 1 pair of actual ears (the things on the top most part of her head that look like donkey ears). The things Misty tugged on aren't ears at all. Just fleshy thin head flaps for lack of a better word.
